Living in Towson we all know just how cold our weather can get but thanks to Jessica Dove there’s an affordable and stylish way for you to stay cozy on campus. Junior and Mass Communications major, Jessica Dove has a skyrocketing knitting business right here on campus! I sat down with Jessica to find out how her amazing talent with knitting came to be.
Her Campus: How did you get started knitting?
Jessica Dove: I’m Italian and my Nana told me that ‘every Italian woman needs to know how to knit’ so I started learning at four and just two years ago I got really bored and picked it up again.
HC: How long have you had Made With Love by JDove?
JD: A year-and-a-half. People kept asking me where I got my scarves and if I could make them for them and yarn is expensive so that’s how it began.
HC: What are your favorite items to make?
JD: I like making baby things because they’re just so cute! I also like making scarves because they’re very simple and so comfy.
HC: How long does it take you to make items?
JD: Scarves take anywhere between 2-5 hours but bigger items like sweaters and blankets could take a couple weeks with schoolwork.
HC: How do you find time to run your business and stay on track with school?
JD: I have an insane coffee addiction so I’m up all the time. On top of school, I also work at Aerie. Schoolwork is a priority but I don’t mind staying up to knit at night. I’ll let my customers know when I have to delay an order because of a project but I can usually do things like read and knit simultaneously.
HC: How wide is your client base?
JD: I’ve had people check out my Facebook page in California and as far as India just by promoting through word of mouth. Most of my orders come in from Maryland and New Jersey.
