Last Minute Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

With Halloween around the corner and wallets low on cash; dressing up could be something people are dreading. No girl wants to spend 40 plus dollars on a costume that barely covers her lovely lady humps yet alone one that does. We all know that Halloween is the one day of the year where a girl can dress promiscuously without getting the judgmental stares from everyone she passes – but with time winding down and money dwindling even quicker what is a girl to do? Just this past weekend I attended a Halloween party, but didn’t want to spend a full tank of gas on a costume for one night. The night before the party I decided that I needed a fix and fast.

My roommate and I took a quick trip down to Cockeysville and explored 5 Below – and of course I found the perfect solution; costume sets. These sets do not include an actual costume, just the accessories that would be worn with a more detailed costume. My roommate decided on the devil set, which came to the jaw dropping price of…one dollar. This set included devil ears and a small pitchfork to complete the look. My costume fix was in party city, for a whole six dollars; cheetah ears. With all the cheetah print hanging in my closet this costume was too easy to throw together.

Here are some tips on how to throw together a more ‘traditional’ costume, an angel, a bunny or a cop, in minutes.

Angel: This is one of the greatest and quickest costumes to create at home. All you need is a white dress or white fabric if you have it. Now that you have the clothes, the only thing missing is the halo and the wings. A set with a halo and wings can be found at any Halloween store for just a few dollars. I found one in Spencer’s for 10 dollars. Just like that, you’re an ange!

The sexy bunny from last year’s Halloween festivities

Bunny: The bunny is probably one of the most notorious Halloween costumes of all time. These sets can be found anywhere. Last year I found mine at 5 Below, so of course it was under five dollars. For this you can match this with the color of your ears. The color of the outfit needed will be determined off the color of the ears whether they are white, gray, or black.

Cop: For those of who would want to be a sexy cop, grab a black dress, or a black skirt and white or black shirt. Then go buy a police hat for nine dollars and you’ve just transformed a regular black dress into a sexy cop costume!

Halloween doesn’t always have to be expensive. Just like when we’re shopping for clothes we search for sales, why should costumes be any different? We already know how to transform clothes most into a costume that can work for for a bunch of different occasions, a house costume party, or a costume party out at a club. We have to learn to use what we got to get what we want.
