Study Break Ideas as Finals Approach

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

What does every college student look forward to in December?  A break!  No, I’m not referring to winter break, I’m talking about all those breaks you need to start incorporating into your studying sessions.  Here are some break ideas you could weave into your all day studying:

1. Grab coffee, tea, or whatever you want with a friend!

This break is great for when you’ve been hibernating in your room all day trying to cram all the information in.  Motivating yourself to get out of the room and giving your mind a break from everything is just what you need.  The only advice along with this kind of break is to limit yourself for how long you stay out.  Try to make sure you only stay out for a couple hours or so, not the whole day.

2. Go for a walk.

Just a short 20-minute walk could go a long way.  This is a great way to clear your mind for a bit and also get your body moving.  Listening to music throughout the walk could also be beneficial.

3. Go to the gym or an exercise class.

This is a great way to relieve some mental stress while benefiting your body!  You’ll be able to stop thinking about your exams and what you need to do to prepare for them and focus on your current workout.

4. Take a nap.

Taking a nap is probably everyone’s favorite kind of break, but can be tricky.  I would recommend limiting your nap time to an hour and a half the most.  Taking a nap would be helpful in retaining some of the information you are studying because your brain will continuously be thinking about it while you slumber.

5. Color in a coloring book.

Although this is not as common as it used to be, it’s better than taking a break to do something on your phone and end up getting distracted.  Having your mind focusing on something different for a while will be a great stress reliever and in the end, you’ll have a beautiful colored picture to hang on your fridge.

6. Do some laundry and/or clean your room.

Maybe it’s just me, but when I clean my room or do my laundry, I become more motivated to complete anything else.  This is also a more productive break from studying if that’s what you’re more into.

I wish you the best of luck with your studying and final exams for this semester!  And if all else fails, just remember Spongebob is still a happy sponge even though he’s failed his driving exam 39 times.

Hello and welcome to my Her Campus profile!  Here you will find all the artcles I have written thus far.  I am currently a junior, majoring in Mass Communication with my focus in Journalism.  I joined Her Campus fall semester of my sophomore year and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of such a great campus organization!  I'm looking forward to being this chapter's co-president with Alicia for the 2017-2018 academic year!  Along with Her Campus, I am also part of Lambda Kappa Tau and Students Helping Honduras.  Some fun facts about me is that I like to sing, write, read, workout, shop, and drink coffee.  I'm also really into photography and sometimes try to incorporate my photos into my articles.  You can check out some of my photography at http://mellowmelyophotography.crevado.com.
