What is Relay for Life?
Relay for Life is a non-profit organization that helps raise money and awareness for cancer and cancer research. Students are able to sign up as individuals or on a team. On the day of the event the Relay Committee hosts in the ice rink, activities and food are provided, along with entertainment such as the Date Auction, the Lip-Sync Concert and the A Cappella Concert.
What is your role on Trinity’s Relay for Life Committee?
I am co-head of Relay for Life, and am in charge of running committee meetings to plan for the event on April 11th at 6PM.
How and when did you get involved?
I got involved with Relay for Life when I was a freshman in high school because one of my sports teams decided to sign up as a team.
Tell us about the event:
The event starts AT 6PM, so we really want people to start arriving 15-20 minutes before that. We’ll have an opening ceremony and opening lap, and then activities will commence. We will host a Date Auction, an A Cappella Concert and a Lip Sync Concert, with individual team activities going on during and in between events. What we also host is the Ceremony of Hope. This ceremony will feature a speaker is usually a caregiver to those with cancer, or a survivor.
What are you favorite parts about the Relay celebration?
Definitely Date Auction
How can people sign up/ donate if they haven’t already?
If you haven’t signed up, you can do so now by going to the Relay for Life website, and searching for our event. Otherwise, show up and you can sign up at the rink! It is $10 to join in general, and if you want the food we provide, you will be required to pay $20. Bring money!
DON’T FORGET: RELAY FOR LIFE STARTS AT 6PM AT THE KOEPPEL RINK THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 11th!
