I don’t know about you, but one of the first things I get excited about when the leaves start to change, the temperature starts to drop, and the layers start to come on is a pumpkin spice latte – what, I’m human too… However, a close second to the deliciously sinful PSL is “Fall” nail colors. I know, I know. They exclude fun pastels like Essie’s Fiji, Lapiz of Luxury, and Blanc – but what they lack in paleness they make up for in darkness. So when your tan has faded and your hands are left looking like your Great Aunt Deb’s, these new 2014 fall colors will be there for you. They’ll add just the right amount of details to not only your pasty paws, but to your entire outfit. Below, I’ve chosen 4 of the best colors from this years predicted trends and broken them down with complimentary articles of clothing. Read on to see which one will go best with your Stuart Weitzman 5050s.
Bordeaux:
While any sort of blood red is always a classic in the fall, this year’s color seems to lean heavily towards a hearty Bordeaux. Because I prefer to work smarter not harder, I’d suggest going for Essie’s Bordeaux – I mean, the name speaks for itself. It’s just red enough to not look all doom-and-gloom, yet still dark berry enough to wear with brown.
Looks best when paired with… Brown boots like these little Saint Laurents. However, there’s no possible way to go wrong with this color.
Grey / Neutral:
If you haven’t heard, read, or seen anything about fashion in the past few weeks, you’d better get familiar with “minimalism.” Minimalism has been having a moment since last spring, and I think we can all agree that with its crisp lines and neutral colors; like grey, white, nude, and black, that it’s here to stay. Considering this, grey seems to be the way to go on nails, as it’s quite literally the perfect transition from summer’s white to winter’s black. I’d suggest Essie’s Cashmere Bathrobe.
Looks best when paired with… anything white, grey, or black. I personally like wearing all three at the same time, so I’d go for a ‘cool girl chill’ look with a white vee and marbled leather jacket.
Dusty Teal:
So you’re probably thinking how do those two things go together. But when you see Essie’s Fall In Line, you’ll understand. The thing about this color is that it can be worn almost like a winter white. In which case, it pairs best with blacks. But plot twist, it also looks amazing with that camel color we’ve been seeing all over NYFW. So I dedicate this one to you, Max Mara Teddy Coat.
Looks best when paired with… ^ lol.
Dark Blue:
If you liked Essie’s After School Boy Blazer, their Style Cartel is the obvious go-to from their new Fall 2014 line, especially with the seasons in transition. This color is a hair lighter than dark navy so it gives you a little pop without looking too much like a “color” on your nails. For someone that loves blue polish no matter the season (hi, that’s me), this color might as well be tattooed on the skin under your nails. Drastic: yes. Necessary: maybe.
Looks best when paired with… 3 words. Black. Suede. Boots. And black jeans. So maybe that’s 6 words, but my point is that blue and black are no longer shamed as the bruise-y combo.
