Happy fall, Trin beauties! As we begin to settle into our demanding and equally exciting schedules, it’s pretty apparent we all have a lot to be thankful for. That said, all of us could benefit from giving back- and I know just the place!

What is Praxis?
Praxis, located on Vernon Street, is Trinity’s only residence-based community service program. The mission of the program is to create a collective environment in which students dedicate themselves to volunteer work on a weekly basis. Now, I know what all of you are thinking- on top of schoolwork, parties and all our other fabulous activities, who has time for three hours of community service each week? But the truth is, with a little time management and some serious leadership skills, Praxis is an amazing place to make friends and get involved in the Hartford community.

Most of you are probably wondering how Praxis works. In the fall, an orientation date is set and the entire Praxis community participates in fun events to get to know each other on an off campus. This year, these events included bowling (the winner and loser received Dunkin Donuts gift cards!), barbeques and a hiking trip. Then, throughout the year, Praxis members choose one or more organization to participate in each week. Sunday night meetings are used to discuss individual progress as well as upcoming group events. The next on the calendar is Praxis Snaxis– where the group will get together late this Saturday night to cure campus-wide munchies on Vernon Street. Come by Doonesbury (located conveniently across from Psi U) before/after/during Tropical! All proceeds will be donated to a charity of choice. Mark your planners for October 1st, hopefully I’ll see some of you there!

How to Get Involved
If any of you Her Campus Trinity readers want to apply for Praxis either next semester or next fall, you can visit the Praxis website here to learn more information and download the application. If you have further questions, you can contact Joe Barber (joseph.barber@trincoll.edu), the Assistant Director of Community Service here at Trinity.

Don’t want to live in Praxis?
From one Trinity girl to another, a community service requirement on top of everything else you have going on might just be too much right now. That’s ok! Praxis will never turn you away if you want to get involved. Just email Jake Prosnit, the Praxis coordinator, at jacob.prosnit@trincoll.edu for information on our upcoming events or for advice regarding any community service project.

Just remember, giving back makes you beautiful! You’re all strong, independent women; all you need to do now is attach yourself to a cause and fight for it.
