Ā A new semester in the new year means tons of exciting things to look forward to on campus. Who better to get the campus life Ā scoop from than the associate director for campus activities? We are thrilled to introduce this week’s campus celebrity, one of the friendliest guys around–Romulus Perez.
Hometown:Ā I always say that I am a citizen of the world, as Iāve lived in so many places.Ā I currently make my humble abode in Wethersfield, CT (although I also live on campus, on Vernon Street).
Favorite color:Ā Royal Blue, but Iām also OK with a staidĀ grey.
Favorite food:Ā Hands down, MEDITERRANEAN cuisine, and I make a mean paella.
Favorite movie:Ā YIPES, thatās a very hard question, but if I could only pick one: Ā The Shop Around the CornerĀ – a 1940 film starring James Stewart & Margaret Sullavan.Ā Itās got everything:Ā comedy, suspense, romance, and the triumph of the human spirit!
Best part about Trinity:Ā So very many students were my inspirations in my having attended classes here, while simultaneously being actively involved in community service. Ā That academic discipline coupled with the edification of teamwork and community building will always have a special place in my heart. Ā Ā
What’s your role on Trinity’s campus?Ā This is my one year anniversary as the Assistant Director for Campus Activities, Office of Campus Life.
How long have you been working at Trinity?Ā 4 full years in the Office of Community Service & Civic Engagement, and 1 full year at OCL.
What’s your favorite part about your job here:Ā Undoubtedly, collaborating with the students and accomplishing thingsĀ together.Ā Ā
What’s one thing you wish people knew more about campus life at Trinity?Ā :Ā Ā That there really is a WHOLE SLEW of things to do at Trinity, and there truly are many good-to-the-core people here to help along the way.Ā I hope for a campus community with more of an āask-not-what-my-school-can-do-for-me-but-ask-what-I-can-do-for-my-schoolā attitude and conviction.Ā Each of us, individually, really makes life on campus ā and life in general ā what we aim and want it to be. Itās GREAT āneath the elms of our dear old Trinity! Ā Ā
What’s your favorite event put on by OCL throughout the year?Ā Ā Dancing with the TrinStars!Ā and come 13thĀ March, weāll be holding ourĀ secondĀ annual event.Ā Watch for upcoming notices and sign up!Ā Everyone rally behind me to get Dean Chris Card and Amy DeBaun to compete this year!
What are some exciting campus events that students can look forward to this semester?Ā Kudos to Nora Huth and Anton Reuben, with whom I collaborated to drum up extra activities occurring during week-end late night hours, which can appeal to a variety of tastes.Ā Students should check their e.mails from Student Activities every Friday or log ontoĀ www.trincoll.edu/trinitytodayĀ orĀ www.trincoll.edu/inĀ for detailed events information.Ā Just one example of something really popular is the weekly FREE movie at Cinestudio for students, every Friday starting at 11 p.m., with FREE popcorn to boot! Ā Ā Ā Ā
Anything else you’d like to let us know about yourself:Ā Ā I love sharing my own personal experiences in and connections with Trinity: I acquired my graduate degree from here in 2010 (you rock my world, English Department!); my association with the Community Service Office under the leadership of Joe Barber involved mentoring, going on alternative Spring Break trips with Habitat for Humanity and volunteering for Relay for Life; Iāve also acted on stage for several shows at the Austin Arts Center.Ā On a more mundane front, Iām just a regular āJosĆ©ā (thatās Spanish for āJoeā), who absolutely enjoys cooking and eating organic foods, is addicted to books and the TCM movie channel (Turner Classic Movies), and adoresĀ qualityĀ pistachio ice-cream!
