What are you doing in your post-grad life?

Right after I graduated I took a job doing sales for a tech-based start-up company, but that wasn’t allowing me to flex my creative muscles. I’m currently the booking agent for Southside in SoHo, but am most committed to my brand, WallflowerFood. WFF is a music and lifestyle site that promotes nu-disco and indie-dance artists through playlists online and on our new iPhone app. I’m also working on an event platform that puts a larger emphasis on brand awareness and hosting high end artists at private spaces.

When/how did you decide you wanted to make a career out of music?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. My father ran a local radio station when I was growing up, so I was exposed to that side of the industry at quite an early age. He even helped me get my own radio show called “Kids Corner” when I was about 8. I didn’t really consider making a career for myself in the music industry until I moved to San Francisco and befriended some musicians. I went to shows with them and watched them work in the studio all summer, and while I knew they were very talented, I realized they were all missing something: branding, something I believed I could help them with. So I began working with up-and-coming producers on their brand, helping them to get booked at venues all across California.

Working in the music industry allows me to be around creative people constantly, whether it is at a show or in the studio. The ability to actually work directly with the creators of the product you are selling or promoting is great, and then watching those people you know succeed is priceless.

What is the most exciting part about coming back to Trinity?

This is actually my first trip back to Trinity since graduating, which is cool. The usual shenanigans with my brothers from Psi U probably get me most jacked up. I can’t wait to see those guys.

What is your favorite project that you’re working on right now?

WallflowerFood, hands down. I started this brand about a year ago with my partner Sam Schoonover from San Diego. It started out as a playlist blog that we used to help promote independent artists from all over the world, and has since turned into a lifestyle brand that promotes feel good dance music through events and technology (www.wallflowerfoodtogo.com). With Sam on the West Coast and me on the East, we’ve been able to take our brand national, putting on some really great events all over the U.S. We even have a full month of shows in November booked in New York City with some awesome artists, such as The Knocks, RAC, Ghost Beach, and Penguin Prison. Lastly, we decided to launch a line of merchandising next month and are stoked to have a line of clothing behind our brand, so you’ll have to look out for that.

Who is your biggest client?

WhiteNoize – my homies Chris and David from San Francisco are legit the ‘Kings of Disco’. If you haven’t checked them out, you should.

How did you decide you wanted Wallflower Food to sponsor Tropical?

Both Chainsmokers and Hook N Sling are very talented artists that I know will make for an awesome show at my alma mater. Considering those two factors, along with wanting to support my fraternity brothers and being able to get WFF some publicity, made it a very easy decision.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

In the next five years… I wan’t to own a chinchilla coat and have a girlfriend for my dog Jaxxen. If I have an apartment and a job in music with those – things will be looking pretty good.

What is your favorite song?

In the history of songs.. tough question. My favorite song right now is Our Time’s remix of Crystal Fighters track ‘ You and I’ – heres a link to it :

I wouldn’t date a girl if she listened to…

Christian Rock or Death Metal. I don’t have time for that ish.
