Trinity Summer Programs: Where YOU Should be this Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Trinity chapter.

It’s hard to believe February is already half way through, and for Trinity students that means an array of things. Students are beginning to acclimate to new spring schedules. Schoolwork has already begun to pile. Winter athletes prepare to make playoff runs while spring athletes dig deep to get through their first weeks of practice. Internship and job application deadlines are starting to creep up – if the due dates haven’t passed already. Already students are looking sleep deprived and counting down the hours until the slight break that comes with spring break.

However, spring break isn’t the only escape you should start thinking about planning. The middle of February also means that students have less than a month and a half to apply for one of Trinity College Summer Programs! It’s a great opportunity for students, and here’s why you should really start considering filling out an application.

1.) Learn a New Culture.

Right now, Trinity is offering both programs in Barcelona and Rome. Both of these cities fall well within the 2016 Traveler’s Choice of top 25 destinations in the world. These cities have a lot to offer, and it looks like everyone agrees.

2.) FOOD.

Pasta. Pizza. Gelato. Tapas. Paella. What more do I have to say?! Going abroad will open the opportunity for you to try some of the best food you’ve ever had for relatively cheap. Eat Pizza Bianca and sip some wine; try croquettes while you’re sipping on wine…. Did I mention the wine is, like, four 4 euros over there? Yeah, lot’s of wine.

3.) Credits

On a more educational note, going abroad during the summer allows you to get some of those missing credits you might need. If you don’t need them, it’s still a good way to get some extra ones under your belt! I got two credits from the Barcelona program, and now I never need to take five classes in a semester again. Plus, going abroad in the summer means you don’t have to miss a semester here at Trinity. That’s huge for winter athletes who can’t go abroad in the fall or spring or for students whose majors restrict them when it comes to spending whole semesters overseas.

4.) Language Requirements

HEADS UP FRESHMEN: for the Barcelona program you take a Spanish class, but don’t worry if you’ve been slacking on studying up on your vocab words. The class accommodates all levels of learning, and it adds a super hands on aspect to learning language. Plus, it’s a full language credit! Kiss that language requirement away.

5.) Filling Out the Application is Non-binding

The app is easy, quick, and getting into the program doesn’t mean you have to go. If you’re still on the fence, waiting to hear back from a job or internship, or still trying to convince your parents to let you go then you don’t need to worry. Once you get accepted to the program of your choice you’ll have a little while to decide whether or not you still want to go.

So start looking for swimsuits, brush up on your Spanish or Italian, and start looking into Trinity’s Summer Aboard programs! It’s not something you want to miss.
