What’s in Your Makeup Bag: Everyday Beauty Basics

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Trinity chapter.
As college girls, we are moving around a LOT. All of these products are easy to throw in your bag and carry around with you for touch ups. Everyone is different, and not all of you will need every one of these; but here is a fun list of essentials that every girl will want to use at some point! Let’s cover the basics, shall we?

For your face…

Tinted moisturizers–Personally, I like to use a tinted moisturizer during the week, and a heavier foundation at night. Tinted moisturizers are great! They provide a little bit of coverage while letting your natural beauty shine through. Tints are easier to blend and much faster to apply than heavier foundation. Most tinted moisturizers have SPF as well, and who am I to say no to that?

Concealer–
It’s my best friend. I don’t have perfect skin, so on top of my tinted moisturizer I use concealer every day. If you are looking to cover acne, look for a thicker concealer that matches your skin or one with a slight green tint to counteract the redness. If you have dark circles try a corrector with a yellower base to reduce blue tones. There are a ton of different concealers out there, so make sure you find one that works for you! These are two of my favorites. The Sonia Kashuk palette is from target, and may be the best $10 I have ever spent. It has 3 tones (light, medium and green tint) to cover anything you may want unseen, and a powder to set. Fresh is a great brand that Is worth every penny, although you have to shell out for it, it lasts all day and hasn’t failed me in 15 months!

Powder–For girls with oily skin like me, powder saves the day. I use it throughout the day to blot and keep me shine free, but also to set my makeup after touch ups. You can use either a powder makeup or a translucent powder, up to you!

Bronzer–
I love bronzer! I’m not ashamed to say that I use it every day. Without bronzer, my face would look flat and pale (not my best look). My favorite bronzer is super-affordable ($6.99!) and I haven’t found any high end one that I like better.

Blush–Blush-wise, I love pinks and peaches. They flatter all skin tones and give your face a pop of color.

For Your Eyes…

Mascara–
I am all about lashes. My favorite mascaras give body and length and are appropriate for day or night!

For Your Lips…

Balm–Last but not least, lips. I love using a chapstick with a tint for all occasions. I have been known to bring out a lipstick for the daytime… but not everyday! These pordcuts are great because they give color to your lips without being sticky like a gloss or chalky like a lipstick. Bonus points for SPF!
