The Tufts University chapter of Alpha Phi Sorority raised the bar for student-run events when they hosted their second auction to benefit the Alpha Phi foundation. The event, cleverly titled Bid Your Heart Out, was professional, chic, and most importantly, raised money for women’s heart health, an issue that affects one out of every six women in the US today.Â
The evening unfolded in Cohen Auditorium where both a silent and live auction took place. There was a photo opportunity, freshly baked delicacies, beautifully wrapped baskets and other auction giveaways in the main foyer. Items ranged from Chanel flats to lunch with President Monaco. The event included the laughable entertainment of sophomores Sloane Glass and Brad Balandis, two musical performances, and the beats of sophomore DJ (and former Campus Cutie) Luke Katz. The entire room was bustling with excitement and shock at the professionalism of the event, which seemed to transport students somewhere far from a college campus.
The event was a huge success, raising a total donation of over $10,000 dollars. That’s almost twice the amount that the sorority raised last year. The sisters of Alpha Phi made the event look effortless, though sophomore member Kara Goldstein admits that the young women worked hard. “We started planning right when we got back to school to make sure that everything went perfectly,” Kara stated. “The entire chapter was extremely supportive in helping get donations and items.”
Wondering when the next fabulous Alpha Phi soiree will take place? Apparently the chapter aims to put on a charity event once a semester, which leaves the Tufts campus with something exciting to look forward to come this spring semester.
