How to Survive a New England Snow Storm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

The best and worst part of the winter is the snow, but are you making the most out of your experience?  Whether you love snow or you absolutely despise it, here are a few things to keep in mind when preparing for and enduring a northeastern snow storm.

Open a Bottle

Living in a drafty off-campus apartment?  Grab a bottle of peppermint schnapps and hot chocolate, bury yourself under the covers, and drink up (if you’re over 21, of course).  This cozy combo will keep you toasty and liven up your snow show.

Salsa Will Save You

There’s a good chance that the supermarkets will close if there’s enough snow and ice.  That means that you need to stock up on the basic food necessities: nutella, chips, and salsa.  Don’t wait until the last minute to get these, either, because they run out fast.  Then you’ll be stuck with the unwanted leftovers like soup, bread, and water.

Go Ice Skating…To the Gym

Even after the storm passes, the sidewalks will stay slippery and icy for a few days.  Snow boots are so 5 minutes ago, look like a badass and start wearing ice skates outside.  While everyone else is huffing, puffing, slipping, and falling to class, you’ll glide past them like an icy badass.

Sorry, Not Tonight

If you really want to survive a snow storm on the hill, you can’t have sex. Your guy isn’t having sex with you for fun or love—he’s trying to steal your precious body heat.

No Clothes, No Cold

Ever wondered why your hat and scarves are always so much warmer than your body? It’s because they are designed to capture your body heat and use it to warm you up when the cold air hits.  If you’re going out in the snow, you’ll need every ounce of body heat you can muster, so skip the clothes and go out naked!
