How do you feel about being a founding member of Tufts Theta?
Being a charter member is an incredible opportunity that only comes around once in a lifetime, if at all. It’s kind of mind blowing, actually, to think we will create the traditions and image that Kappa Alpha Thetas at Tufts will follow for years to come. We have an awesome group of girls with a lot of differences but a lot more in common than I think we realized.
Is there something about Theta that distinguishes it from the other sororities at Tufts?
Right now, Theta doesn’t have an identity. I think that’s the biggest part. We have the values of the sorority to uphold, but at Tufts it’s really up to us to define ourselves. The next few months are going to be big; we are building from the ground up in a “by the people, for the people” kind of way.
What aspect of being a part of Greek Life excites you the most?
I’m excited to have a group of girls I can depend on, and a place to call “home” at Tufts. We move around a lot here. Dorm to dorm, friend group to friend group. It means a lot to have something constant I know I will always be a part of.
What made you decide to join Greek Life?
I wanted to be a part of something bigger at Tufts, and helping to start up Theta seemed like a huge way to do that. I want to create something that improves both my and others’ college experiences.
Do you think having a 4th sorority will impact campus life, and how?
Increasing the number of sororities on campus will better the experience of all members and improve the rush process. Finding the right fit for someone is hard, and when only given three options, you end up with a very broad range of girls in each group. Not everyone fits perfectly into Chi-O or AOPi or Alpha Phi. Theta will bring a new identity to the table and give future potential new members a better chance of ending up where they belong. This will result in all sorority members being closer to each other and having a more personalized experience.
What advice do you have to give to Collegiettes rushing in the spring?
Obviously I’m biased, so I have to say “Think Theta!” But in reality, all of the sororities on campus are full of great women who can offer you a very special experience. Go into recruitment with an open mind and I truly hope you find the place you belong. We’d love to have you as a part of our first new member class!
