No matter where you go to college, your freshman year is an exciting time, filled with new experiences and new people. That being said, my first year here at Tufts far exceeded my expectations. From the moment I first stepped on campus, I realized what a whirlwind my time here would be. Now that my first year is coming to a close, I honestly don’t know where all the days went! Looking back, though, it is easy to recall the highlights of my freshman year, and all the memories that truly made it exceptional.

One of the best parts of the year for me was the very beginning, when I did the F.I.T. (Fitness & Individual Development at Tufts) pre-orientation program. F.I.T. was a great way both to get adjusted to the Tufts campus and to meet people before the entire freshman class arrived on campus. That being said, I loved our class-wide Orientation just as much. I remember the five days before classes actually began as being packed with activities, and I met so many new people that it was hard to remember them all. Orientation was a great introduction to Tufts, and it made me remember why I had been so excited about being accepted by the university.

My favorite event this fall was definitely Homecoming, and all of the excitement that came with it. We Jumbos have legendary school spirit, and Homecoming is definitely one of those days when everyone rallies around our beloved Tufts. Getting all decked out and running around with my friends from various tailgates to games to the dining hall and then back out at night was so much fun. Tufts may not be a big state school where events like that happen every weekend, but Homecoming made me realize at the time how much I was beginning to love going to my school.

Homecoming was a great day, but the process of rushing my sorority was something that really defined my freshman year. Before coming to Tufts, I had thought that I might want to go Greek, and the more I looked into it, the more I realized how much I would love to be part of a sorority. Everyone involved in Greek life at Tufts seemed very chill about it, which definitely factored into my decision to rush.  I am now a sister in Alpha Phi, and I love being a part of the sorority. Not only have I met so many cool girls I probably wouldn’t have had the chance to meet otherwise, but also I feel like I have a much larger support system on campus, which makes Tufts feel even more welcoming.

Over all, freshman year definitely went by way too quickly. It’s not quite over, thankfully, and – based on what I’ve heard about past years – I’m sure that Spring Fling will definitely make the list of my top memories of the year. That being said, if there’s one thing that I will take from my freshman year, it’s being even more excited to come back in the fall and have the sophomore experience. This year I learned about all things Tufts that I love, and now that I have such a solid foundation I can’t wait to come back in September!
