Everyone knows what the night before an exam consists of – nurturing false confidence and a few hours in Tisch before calling it quits. The timeline looks a little like this:
8:30 pm: Finishing up dinner at Dewick and heading to Tisch with your backpack packed. You’re ready to just review what you already know…
9:45 pm: Looking over the list of terms for the exam and realizing you only understand about half of the terms.
11:00 pm: Hoping to not be alone in this so you quickly scan the reading room for others with the same textbook. You make eye contact with your friend who tries to send you some confidence.
12:30 am: Finally getting that practice exam question you’ve been working on for the past 45 minutes that you thought you’d never solve.
12:50 am: The “voice” comes on telling you that Tisch is closing soon and you haven’t even covered all the terms on your review sheet.
1:30 am: Getting back to your room and having that “I’m totally gonna fail tomorrow” panic attack.
2:30 am: Finally collecting yourself (at the request of your tired roommate) and getting into bed knowing that you really can’t do anything else.
A few days later: Finally getting the grade back and you did way better than you expected!
We all go through the same things, but studying really does pay off in the end. Best of luck with the rest of your midterms everyone! And know that you’re not alone at 1am the night before a test; someone somewhere in the reading room is feeling the exact same way.
