Pokeworks: the first of the “poke” phenomenon to arrive in Boston.
Many consider Pokeworks the “Chipotle” of Poke. Poke, “A Hawaiian raw fish salad that can be made with yellowfin tuna, octopus, or numerous other fish and a variety of seasonings,” has become very popular in many large cities such as California, New York and Seattle. Considered the latest and greatest fast food chain, Pokeworks top hits include the Hawaiian Classic (ahi tuna, green and sweet onion, ogo seaweed, cucumber, Hawaiian salt, chili flakes, roasted sesame oil) and the Wasabi Shrimp & Scallops (sous vide shrimp and scallops, green and sweet onion, cucumber, masago, wasabi aioli)
Many customers also prefer the DIY special which allows you to choose a base (a bowl with white or brown rice or quinoa, a "pokirrito," which is a wrap with white rice and seaweed, or a salad with chopped romaine), as many as three proteins (fish, chicken, and tofu), vegetable and fruit (edamame, mango, kale, orange slices and more), flavorings and sauces (salt, Sriracha aioli, wasabi, spicy ginger and more), and toppings (seaweed salad, pickled, ginger, toasted rice puffs, avocado, sesame seeds and more). I got the Umami Classic, which includes ahi tuna, green and sweet onion, hijiki seaweed, cucumber, sesame seeds and umami shoyu sauce.
Pokeworks is located at 261 Elm St. Somerville, MA.
