The Real RezLife: Houston Hall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live in other halls? Are you trying to pick a place to live next year? Are you a prospective student who wants to know what Tufts dorms are really like? Well if so, this is the column for you. Every week I will talk about one of the dorms and get input from current residents who will tell you what Tufts residential life is really like. This week…

                                                                                Houston Hall!

Location: Uphill
Students: 252 Freshmen
Room Type: Doubles

What the students have to say

On social life…

  • “It’s a really good social life because I feel that you can spend time on any of the floors and you can meet people.”
  • “Very social.”
  • “So much laughter.”

On the rooms…

  • “Some people fare better than others but they are definitely all a decent size.  Especially compared to some of the other dorms.”
  • “We have an ant problem.”
  • “Basement rooms are bigger.”

On common spaces (lounges, kitchens, bathrooms)…

  • “The lounge is decent but not fantastic. The couches are outdated.”
  • “The lounge is okay. It could be better, it could be worse.”
  • “I like the TV [in the lounge], but it’s not a great place to study.”
  • “Bathrooms are so-so. Kitchen is functional.”

On being all freshmen…

  • “It’s much easier to meet people  and everyone’s really willing to make friends.”
  • “So many freshmen live in Houston that it’s hard to ever feel isolated.”
  • “I walked into the hallway at 4am to use the bathroom and there was this girl studying in the hallway like it was completely normal. That’s freshman year for you.”
