Last Thursday, September 26th, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts held an exhibit all about fashion during the Hippie Era. There were dozens of sweet threads, free Bindi gelato, and hundreds of other free exhibits.
Before entering the MFA, the spirit of the 60s and 70s was extremely palpable. The entrance was adorned with two Volkswagen busses and the face of the museum was lit by a colorful light display remnant of a kaleidoscope.
The “Hippie Chic” exhibition took place in a small room near the entrance. The room, “from the curvy walls and platforms… even the wigs”, was designed to immediately transport the visitor to another time and “create a fun and thought-provoking experience.”
The exhibit was divided into a few categories such as “Retro Hippie” and “Trippy Hippie”. Every outfit had a plaque underneath stating who the designer was and what trend it represented. There was a plethora of funky prints and pantsuits.
This is not to be missed, and it’s only around until November 11th, so take a trip into Boston with your fellow Collegiettes and have a psychedelic time!
