     Tennessee has Bonnaroo, Chicago has Lollapalooza, and Southern California has Coachella, but when it comes to music festivals, it seems as though the East Coast is lacking. Over the past 17 months, however, New York City has begun to step up to the plate, hosting a string of music festivals featuring house, dubstep, and electronica artists. This past May, Electric Daisy Carnival rocked the city for three days for the first time in its 15-year history, followed by the second annual Randall’s Island-based Governor’s Ball just a few weeks later. Yet despite the overwhelmingly positive reactions these concerts provoked, many techno fans still craved more.
        With their lax drinking restrictions, all-night clubs, and sexy foreign guys, European cities have a certain allure for the Collegiette party girl. With annual music festivals such as Belgium’s Tomorrowland, Croatia’s Groovefest, and Bestival on the UK’s Isle of Wight, Europe has been ahead of the US in the festival trend for years. Just two weekends ago, however, Americans were finally given their very own domestic taste of a true techno rave, being graced by the house concert of all concerts: Sensation White. Originating in Amsterdam – Europe’s most infamous city of sin – this eight-hour long beat fest features both some of the world’s best house and trance DJs, and one of the craziest light shows you will ever see. Called Sensation White because of its dress code (everyone dresses in all white, in case you hadn’t guessed), looking around the crowd in the middle of this incredible visual display will make feel as though you have entered a surreal dreamland. In addition, Sensation has a different theme every year (this year’s was Innerspace), which makes for a truly unique experience.
        Over 50,000 people flooded Brooklyn’s Barclays Center both the evening of Friday, October 26th, and Saturday, October 27th. As is every Sensation show, the event was opened by DJ Mr. White, followed by Dennis Ferrer, Fedde Le Grand, Joris Voom, and Nic Fanciulli on Friday night, and Danny Tenaglia, Fedde Le Grande, 2000 and One, and Mark Knight on Saturday. Amped up by the lights and the music (among other things), the crowd was on its feet literally the whole night, taking breaks from dancing only to hit up the free water stations (hydration is key at a rave). Whether you’re a house fan or not, the Sensation White experience is one that everyone should have. So whether you decide to attend next year’s US show, or to head to one of the 19 European, 3 Asian, or 1 South American countries to which the show travels, this is an event you will not regret attending.
