As college students, the stress of work, little sleep, night-life, and junk food can leave us feeling not only tired, but also with poor complexions. Follow these five simple ways to get clear skin all year round, and you will be on your way to ensuring that you look your best to face each and every day.
1. Take off your makeup before you go to bed!
I cannot stress the importance of this tip. No matter how tired, dehydrated, or unmotivated you are, it is imperative that you take off all makeup before getting into bed. Otherwise, all the dirt, oil, and bacteria that have been sitting on your face all day will clog your pores.
2. Do not touch your face.
I know it’s tempting to prop up your face with your hand during a boring lecture, but your hands are covered in bacteria that can seep into your pores and cause breakouts.
3. Drink lots of water.
Skin cells are composed mainly of water. Staying hydrated throughout the day provides your cells with the water they need to function properly, while also flushing out toxins in your body.
4. Moisturize.
It is a common misconception that only people with dry skin should apply moisturizer. In reality, when skin is too dry, it overcompensates by producing excess oil. Therefore, people with oily skin should also moisturize.
5. Apply an SPF.
No matter the weather, hot or cold, you should apply a face product, whether it be sunscreen, makeup, or moisturizer, that has an SPF. The sun’s rays can do just as much damage to your skin in the winter as they do in the summer. The earlier you start protecting your skin, the better you will look as you age.
