The app Uber, our modern day taxi, is a great way for a collegiette to get around Boston. Even so, sometimes what we expect from our Uber rides and drivers is a far cry from reality! This article should put in perspective what really happens when you push the “Request an Uber” button!

Expectation: Getting kidnapped by your Uber driver who doubles as a serial killer.Reality: Getting picked up by the most ordinary and un-sketchy person ever.
Expectation: Your Uber driver will only make casual small talk.Reality: Your Uber driver gives you spanish lessons, explains to you how annoying drunk college students are, and tells you his life story.Expectation: Your Uber driver will immediately find you once he arrives, and you won’t have to wait.Reality: Your Uber driver is unable to find the address you gave him and will drive around the area for thirty minutes.Expectation: Your Uber ride won’t be anything special.Reality: You leave with a new CD from your driver’s record label.Expectation: The ride will be slightly more expensive than the T but way cheaper than a taxi.Reality: Uber has a surge fee and you now pay 2.25x the regular rate. There goes your college budget.Expectation: Your ride will be safe and your driver will be licensed, even though he might be slightly strange.Reality: Your Uber driver goes the wrong way down a one way street.Expectation: Every customer has the same chance of being picked up by an Uber driver.Reality: There is a ranking system where drivers can see whether you’ve previously been a good customer (we both have 5 stars) which ultimately determines whether or not you’re picked up.Expectation: Your Uber ride will leave you completely unchanged.Reality: You leave the car with seriously fantastic stories to tell your friends.
