It’s hard to believe that the 2016 election is just around the corner! Election Day brings even more media coverage of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s campaigns, and with all the “drama” that has followed this year’s election, it is easy to forget what Trump and Clinton’s campaigns promise the American people. This article will briefly summarize their backgrounds, and break down a few of each candidate’s stances on a variety of issues. Hillary Clinton
Clinton earned her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and continued on to Yale Law School. She practiced law for many years and eventually served as a United States Senator from 2001 to 2009. Clinton was then appointed to the position of Secretary of State under Barack Obama. She held the position from 2009 to 2013. She is the Democratic Presidential nominee.
Taxes: Clinton wants a fair tax system demanding that Wall Street, upper class, and corporations pay “their fair share.”
“An economy that works for everyone”: Clinton states that America needs an economy that works for everyone, not just those on top.
Campus Sexual Assault: Clinton’s website says, “It’s not enough to condemn sexual assault, we need to end it.”
Climate Change: She plans to take on the threat of climate change and make America the world’s clean energy superpower.
Gun Violence Prevention: Clinton wants to end the epidemic of gun violence and believes it’s possible.
Education: If elected, Clinton will work to ensure that every child across the country has access to the best education. She wants to create better testing systems and provide teachers with the training and resources they need.
Foreign Policy: Hillary Clinton’s primary goal will be to keep America safe and defend its values by strengthening alliances, refining America’s cutting-edge military, defeating ISIS, and enforcing the Iran nuclear deal.

Donald Trump
Donald Trump received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and went on to graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance. Trump built a successful real estate empire. Trump has written over 15 bestselling books. Most notably, his first book, The Art of the Deal, is considered to be one of the most successful business books of all time.
Making Deals with Congress: Trump wants the Republican Party and everyone in Congress to come together and act as a unified unit.
Law Enforcement: He believes that the police in our country do not get the respect or appreciation they deserve for the incredible work they do.
Competent Leadership: Trump believes America needs strong leadership. Trump states that his successful track record reflects his ability to get things done. He says, “politicians can talk but they don’t get things done.”
Drug Epidemic: If elected, Trump plans to stop the drug flow into this country at U.S. borders.
The 2nd Amendment: Trump states that he will not take away the constitutional right to bear arms.
Education: He plans to enhance education options for students through school choice and charter schools, as well as making college more affordable for families and students so that they are not buried in loans.
Foreign Policy: If elected, Trump will make it his primary goal to “Make America Safe Again” by ridding America of Islamic terrorist groups, ending the Iran nuclear deal and the ransom payments to the world’s number one states sponsor of terrorism.
