4 SNL Skits to Watch Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

The 39th season of my favorite show, Saturday Night Live, premiered Saturday, September 28, with Tina Fey as the opening episode’s host. Admittedly, I have been apprehensive about the future of SNL. With the absence of Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Fred Arimsen, Jason Sudeikis, and Bill Hader, I was worried if the show would survive without its headlining talent.  But, of course, SNL has never failed me, and the 39th season premiere was arguably one of the funniest debuts I have seen in recent years. And with Tina Fey as the host, how could it not be?

On to last week’s episode. I was anxious to see what would happen with Miley Cyrus being the host and musical guest. I, personally, cannot stand to follow the “news” surrounding her recent antics, and thought she would make her appearance on the show yet another reason to shock America by being outrageously inappropriate. However, SNL did a wonderful job of using Miley for who she is, and has always been: a performer.

Missed the last two weeks of SNL? Catch up by watching the top four skits:

1.Tina Fey: “Girls Promo”

Even if you do not watch Girls, this parody will still have you laughing on the floor. Note: Randomness always wins.

2.Tina Fey: “Airport”

SNL always finds a way to make fun of everyday occurrences. This skit perfectly embodies each type of person you’ll find on your next flight.

3.Miley Cyrus: “We Did Stop”

Because what better way to parody the government shutdown than seeing Miley as Michele Bachmann singing about reppin’ the GOP?

4.Miley Cyrus: “Cold Open: VMA’s Backstage”

We all wonder what went through Miley’s head during her VMA performance. And by marking it as “the end of America,” this skit superbly addresses her controversial performance.
