This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.
As someone who is always looking to get out and investigate this beautiful city we all call home, I’ve found that discovering new haunts is often easier said than done. It’s often much simpler to settle on the restaurants, stores, and cafes that you frequent instead of branching out and finding new ones.Â
Â
Because I’ve experienced the frustration of getting stuck in a rut, I thought I’d share the three best ways I’ve found to break out of your comfort zone.
Â
1. Word of Mouth
Talk to your friends and see what they’ve tried! I found out about the amazing cheddar, bacon and cheese fries at Dat Dog and $1 thrift shop sales through talking to people I know. Once you’ve picked their brains, recruit people to go with you!
Â
2. Locals
People who live here can tell you what bookstore has the best selection or what cafe makes an amazing espresso. New Orleans natives are generally incredibly friendly and willing to share with you anything that leave learned throughout their time here. Think about how many good places you’ve found in your hometown!Â
Â
3. Facebook
Not that I’m advocating overt Facebook stalking, but there’s nothing wrong with browsing through your friends’ pictures in search of new places to try. Your friend from Orientation went to Rum House? The girl who sits next to you in your Econ class posted pictures of her amazing sushi dinner? Use their experience to your advantage!
Â
4. The internet
Just search “best movie theaters in New Orleans” or “best places to go for a run” and see what comes up. Some great sites that I’ve found are www.neworleansonline.com and www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g60864-Activities-New_Orleans_Louisiana.html.Â
