What are you involved in on Tulane’s campus?
RA, Tulane Green Club and Divest Tulane
Â
Can you tell us a little bit about the endeavor your are most passionate about?
I care about climate change. Current numbers show that Louisiana is likely to see a local sea level rise of 4.3 – 9.5 feet by the end of the century. Most of southeastern LA is 3ft above sea level. Needless to say, this needs to change.
Â
If you could change one thing about Tulane, what would it be?
I would make Tulane stop investing in fossil fuel companies. Right now Tulane’s endowment supports the very same companies whose business contribute to the sea level rise that will see a significant part of this state underwater by 2100.
Â
What are you most proud of from your time at Tulane?
I am most proud of being able to get 20 people to come to a protest in DC about the KeystoneXL pipeline. I did not think that I would ever be able to get that many people to drive across the country for a protest, but sure enough people care and more people wanted to come than we had room for.
Â
If you were to give any advice to someone trying to lead, be part of, or promote a social movement, what would it be?
Don’t stop. Things will get you down, people will tell you can’t, but it’s just that simple: don’t stop.
Â
If you were given $100,000, what would you do with it?
I would invest in wind energy. Wind energy is the fastest growing energy source in America. Not only would I get a good return on it eventually, but I would be supporting an industry that needs support.
Â
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Socks when the elastic wears out. That and when Bruff’s dishwasher dies and they use disposable plates and utensils.
Â
Who is your favorite political, historical or popular figure?
Aldo Leopold
Â
What is a quote, motto or saying that inspires you?
“Live nutty. Just occasionally. Just once in a while. And see what happens. It brightens up the day.” -Leo Buscaglia
