This past week, I was stunned by news that a famous person had been spotted in my small hometown. While certain celebrities do frequent Larchmont, none have been so surprising, or so random, as the pop sensation Usher. A little research informed me that the singer originates from Chattanooga, Tennessee—a long way from the suburbs of New York City.
Usher’s family moved to Atlanta, Georgia after discovering his singing ability. It was there that he showcased his musical talent and gained exposure. Where did he go from there? Well, for starters, none other than my towns’ only Starbucks.
The news went viral after a local boutique, Outerluxe, uploaded a shot of him to Facebook. The picture’s caption ponders why the singer did not stop by the store for some clothing during his jaunt in town. Larchmont happens to border Scarsdale, the now rumored residence of the power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and their newborn girl, Blue Ivy. Many have speculated that Usher was in town on a visit to see his famous friends.
Regardless of the reason for his coffee break, I am upset I missed the sighting. Fresh off his surprise appearance at the Coachella music festival in southern California, it seems that Usher is back at the top of the music industry. After a long hiatus and infrequent song releases, the celebrity has certainly “Caught Up.” I predict good things for Usher’s future, both in regards to his music as well as his swift return to Westchester County.
