I’m in love with Fall, even though comparatively, Fall in New Orleans in completely different
than Fall in Seattle. I can’t express how nice it is when you walk into a home and can smell
the spices brewing and know that there’s a cup of hot apple cider waiting to be appreciated.
However, since it’s the beginning of October, this marks the period of time where it’s ok to have
hot spiced drinks and so here’s a flexible recipe for apple cider (one of the best drinks ever) that
you can easily make into a warm cocktail.

Spiced Hot Apple Cider Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

8 cups pressed Apple Juice/Cider (not from concentrate)

1 orange, cut into 1/4″ slices

1 apple, cute into slices

3 cinnamon sticks

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1 tablespoon cloves

1 inch piece of ginger cut into coin sized slices

1/4 cup brown sugar

*optional spiced Rum

DIRECTIONS:

Place all the ingredients into a large pot and bring to boil for 5 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer
for 30 minutes. (Optimally, put it in a slow cooker and just let it marry all the flavors until you
finish drinking it, or feel that it’s ready). Strain cider before serving. Enjoy the warm fuzzies
you’ll get inside!

*For a Spiked version, add a shot of spiced rum to each glass
