Dear Mark Zuckerberg,
Â
First, thanks for inventing the best procrastination tool. Ever. Also, thanks for giving the world a way to stalk the people they want, but in a legal and slightly less creepy manner. I think I speak for all of us when I say Facebook stalking is a great way to find out information about someone, such as deciding my senior year of high school on whether a girl has roommate potential or not. (Admit it, girls, you did this).
Â
But, with all due respect Mr. Zuckerberg, these recent changes to Facebook have caught me off guard. I was completely content with the old layout of Facebook. To begin, please change remove the new stalker box on the upper right corner of my home page. It’s extremely creepy, and I really don’t want/need to know when one of my friends just accepted a friend request from someone I’ve never heard of, wrote on someone’s wall, commented on a status, etc.  I feel like I am invading someone’s privacy when people I have no relation to all of a sudden pop up on the stalker box. Plus, it makes me uncomfortable that I am showing up on others’ Facebooks who I am not friends with.
Â
Next, on the home page, why are the pictures all of a sudden giant-sized? Are you trying to embarrass me when I sit on Facebook in class and the kid behind me sees his recent Mupload magnified on my mini-feed? I’d appreciate it if the picture size would go back down to normal.
Â
Here’s a suggestion from a frequent, sometimes too frequent, visitor to your website: allow users to choose which layout of Facebook they prefer. With the constant Facebook changes, we are left with no choice but to accept the new changes. Many users are beginning to feel manipulated by Facebook and their inability to control the layouts. If we all had a choice of our favorite layout, you would have millions of more satisfied Facebook users.
Â
So, there you have it, Mark Zuckerberg. We love Facebook, we love to Facebook stalk, but we still want some choices left up to us.
Â
Love,
Brittany Kottler
