Music to My Ears: Get Pumped to Mardi Pardi

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Happy Mardi Gras!  As you a getting ready for this Carnival season, be sure to play these five awesome songs that are perfect for everything Mardi Gras.  Of course, I threw some traditional Cajun music into the mix to give a taste of the real New Orleans.  Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez!

1) Wild Ones (feat. Sia) – Flo Rida
I love everything that Flo Rida has been coming out with lately.  He was one of the pioneers to integrate
electronic/club with hip-hop, a fact that will truly define this generation of music.  “Wild Ones” is upbeat and has a great melody, but what made me truly love it is that it has a dreamy element too it, like it will just take you to a different world.  Perfect for Mardi Gras!

2) Tonight Is the Night – Outasight
“Tonight Is the Night” has one of best melodies I have heard in a very long time.  Just
listening to it right now, Iwant to get ready to go out and dance the night away! (Sadly, I find myself in the library on a Saturday night studying for an upcoming test).  Outasight is brand new to music world, but I predict good things for this newbie.

3) Breaux Bridge Hop – La Touche
I’m warning you now—this is the epitome of Cajun music at its finest.  Of course, all the band members of La
Touche are as Cajun as they come.  Even though I would normally never include this in one of my regular lineups, it’s important to remember the real culture of New Orleans, especially at this time of year.  Also, I guarantee you will hear it at a parade sometime through the course of the Mardi Gras weekend.

4) Sweet Hitch-Hiker – Creedence Clearwater Revival
This song is perfect in so many ways.  Creedence Clearwater Revival was a band hailing from the 1960s and
even if you have never heard of the band name before, you have probably heard the song somewhere (perhaps the dozens of movies that used it in their soundtracks?).  What’s cool too is that they also played in the infamous Woodstock Festival, and you definitely get the hippie vibes when listening to this song.

5) Brass Monkey – Beastie Boys
I mean, how could I not include this song?  This song is so fun and perfect to get you pumped up for anything
(and I mean ANYTHING…).  The Beastie Boys came to popularity during the 1980s and are still today one of the longest-lived hip-hop acts of all time.  Their songs are completely unique, which is why the band will always be popular.
