1. Lights – Ellie Goulding
I now declare “Lights” the official song of summer. Ellie Gouding is a British singer-songwriter who, like most British artists, has never received the recognition she deserves from the US. “Lights” definitely incorporates the Euro club/electronic/pop influence that has gotten so popular in the last year. Okay, so maybe “Euro club/electronic/pop” isn’t the best description, but either way, this song blows me away.

2. Everything is Sound – Jason Mraz
Can I let you in on a little secret? Jason Mraz is good-luck charm. I know it may sound crazy, but anytime his songs played on the radio, good things always follow. Even if you’re not as superstitious as I am, you’ll love Mraz’s new single that perfectly characterizes his laid-back, “feel-good” style.

3. Get Busy – Sean Paul
What summer of 2012 really needs is a resurgence of reggae music. And while artists such as Sean Kingston have made a few good attempts, the best party/reggae/summer song ever goes to “Get Busy” by Sean Paul. Be on the lookout for Sean Paul’s newest album Tomahawk Technique, which is to be released sometime this year.

4. No Interruption – Hoodie Allen
You know you found a good song when the lines between rap and pop are completely blurred. That’s the case at least with “No Interruption,” by the unsigned artist Hoodie Allen. What’s unique about this new artist is that he graduated from UPenn and later got a job at Google, only to leave it later to follow his passion for music. Sorry, Google!

5. Vava Voom (feat. Lupe Fiasco) – Bassnectar

Um…HECK YES. Meet this newest single to Bassnectar’s crazy collection, “Vava voom.” Bassnectar will spend the summer touring all around the US (unfortunately with the exception of New Orleans), so be sure to check out his website to find out when he will be coming to you. With the combination of the energetic dubstep playing 100 decibels too high and the epic light shows Bassnectar is notorious for putting on, it will be a show you will NOT want to miss.
