It’s not hard to have “fomo” (fear of missing out) when all of your friends are talking about exciting fall break plans. There’s Austin City Limits Music Festival, a Gulf Shores getaway, or the opportunity to go home for a long weekend. Unfortunately, many of us college kids are tight for cash and staying in New Orleans is our only option. Instead of getting hung up on what you have to say no to, take this opportunity to explore the city and all the free events it has to offer! This itinerary combines some of the many possible and affordable events going on in New Orleans.
Thursday, October 10th: From 12-8pm, watch People United for Armstrong Park Present Jazz in the Park. Cyril Neville/Swamp Funk and Gaynielle Neville & Her Sweet Stuff Band will perform. http://www.neworleansonline.com/calendar/events.html?startdate=2013-10-10
Friday, October 11th: New Orleans Film Festival. Named one of the 25 Film Festivals Worth The Entry Fee, over 200 films are screened over the course of these eight days. Ticket prices vary depending on the film, short, or music video. http://neworleansfilmsociety.org/pages/detail/31/film-festival
Saturday, October 12th: Louisiana Seafood Festival located at the City Park Festival Grounds features live entertainment, cooking demos, local arts and crafts, and tons of world famous restaurants offering discounted dishes. If you can’t get there Saturday, the Festival lasts from the 11th to the 13th. Or just go twice! http://www.neworleansonline.com/neworleans/festivals/culinaryfestivals/seafoodfestival.html
Sunday, October 13th: You don’t have to be Latin to enjoy the “Celebracion Latina” in Audubon Zoo. The festival highlights the area’s Latin culture with music and food and the location can’t be beat, especially if you don’t have a car. http://www.auduboninstitute.org/celebracion-latina
Hopefully, with these plans, your fall break will begin to sound more comparable to that of your friends!
