6 Ways To Enjoy Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TX State chapter.

When Taylor Swift composed “22”, she didn’t know that she was describing the perfect Valentine’s Day for the single hearts. February is the time of year full of love messages, romantic gestures, and everywhere you go, you’ll definitely see couples. For some people, this day can be annoying and difficult, especially if you’re single. That’s why me and my friends, who are also single, always try to do something fun during this day.

February 14th doesn’t need to be sad and lonely. I have found 6 of the best ways I have spent this day that were fun and gave me the “Valentine’s Day Magic,” even while not having a romantic partner.

1. Spa Day

Now listen, I know this may sound a little cliche, but if you reunite with your friends, you can do something fun and inexpensive. If you go to Target, you can find many mascaras and skin care products that are good and at a low price. Then, it’s just a night of spending time with your besties and creating a spa at home. If you are feeling up to spending money, there are clinics that definitely will open on Valentine’s Day (but it’s important to check their availability beforehand).

I recommend the ”Que Bella” mascaras. In addition to having different aromas, they are cheap and very easy to use.

2. Movies

After I discovered the freedom of going to the movies by myself, I honestly feel that I can appreciate going to the movies alone more. There are a few movies coming out around Valentine’s Day and Cinemark prepared a whole collection for this year that you can watch by yourself or with a friend. The important thing is not to stay alone at home!

3. Powerpoint Night

This idea got viral on TikTok a few months ago, but me and my friends tried to “improve” the idea by making it an award night. Basically, we opened a form and selected a few categories for the winners, for instance, “who had the worst ex” or “who had the best fall of the year.” Then, we did a small award ceremony, delivering a crown and, obviously, a fun powerpoint to announce the winners!

4, Try A New Recipe

One good thing about Valentine’s Day is the delicious thematic desserts that bakeries usually sell during this time of the year. I remember last year that I found this article about 72 different types of deserts you can prepare. I cooked the “Valentine’s Day Brownies” (slide 21) and it was delicious! You can prepare for yourself, friends, or family!

5 DRINK TASTING

This one is for all the 21 babes! Usually, all of the bars are open during this day so you can take advantage of this and try different cocktails that you’ve never tried before!

6 MAKE PLANS

Everytime I’m feeling upset, I like to try to make different plans for my life to get motivated again. One type of plan that never fails is to make a plan to travel(even better if it is with your friends). You can find different options on websites like Airbnb and even make it a road trip!
