5 Tips to a Cheap and Stylish Spring
Spring is (hopefully!!) on the way and the sales are here! Those few warm days we Huskies experienced last weekend were just a tease as to what summer will be like, but also a little look into what is trending this spring. However, as college student’s, our eyes tend to be bigger than our bank accounts for spring trends.I know we all are trying to look our best in case we “accidentally” bump into Shabazz or any of the other basketball players while out and about on campus so here’s a few tips on how and what to buy this spring without breaking the bank.
Â
1. Sign up as a user on your favorite websites. If you have a favorite site that you are always buying from, it is worth it to sign up with them and become one of their “members”. Often, if you time it right, you will get 20% off your next order or give you free shipping for a limited time. H&M and Forever 21 are both good sites that give discounts for signing up with them. If you are cautious of giving out your information, just use an email you never use and a fake name if you are even that cautious. All they need is your email and if they have a rewards system, like DSW, they let you know when you have earned a gift card! Keep an eye out for stores that accept student ID’s and give you a discount, like JCrew!!

2. While on the hunt with your new found discounts, keep an eye out for blush colored items. Pale pink, blush, pastel, are all in style this season. Paired with a pair of white jeans and some new super gladiator sandals and you’ll have the guys on campus, but also the jealous girls who will plan to steal your look. This shirt is from H&M and was $17.95 but now on sale $12 because on an online sale ending on Easter! It is perfect for walking to class or going out on the weekend.Â

3. Not interested in the blush trend? Look for graphic T’s with French sayings on them and pair with some black leather shorts. Leather not your thing either and not sure how to pair cute graphic shirts? Just click the tab (at least on the H&M website) that says “Style With” and it will give you ideas of what to wear with the specific article. Not sure where to even start for spring trends? Check the main page of the website you are on to see if they have any style guides. Forever 21 has look books that show how to wear their clothes. Often those are on the expensive side because they are new. Use them as inspiration and dig through the end of winter sale items they are trying to clear out of their stock. Graphic T’s work for any event because you can dress them up or down and you still feel comfy but chic.Â

4. As mentioned before, gladiator sandals are back, and more twisted than ever. Sandals that look like they were taken off Russel Crowe in Gladiator or, no straps at all are super in right now. Single bands around the ankles and around the toes, reminiscent of the 90’s have been popping up everywhere on campus as well as gladiator shoes that have thicker straps that criss cross in square patterns. Heels or flats, both of these styles are in right now. Most websites will be have some form of these, if not, check DSW or for the super cheap ones, check Payless. If they are cute and people comment on them, it doesn’t matter where they come from. *Quick Tip:* I have found shoes on Amazon for $5 that are the envy of all my friends so before splurging on those wedges you told yourself you earned by studying so hard, take a quick peruse of Amazon and see if they have them or anything like them for cheap.Â
5. I can never keep straight the rule about white and Labor day, but don’t worry about it, because wearing white this spring is totally acceptable. White dresses, white crop tops, white jeans, white bohemian shirts, all seem to be popping on campus this time of year. Staying witht this trend is not hard to do, but it’s a matter of how you do it. Flowy lacey bohemian tops add a whimscal look to any day outfit be it hanging out on the North quad, or making it down to one of the afternoon parties. As always, keep an eye out for deals! Can’t find any? Google the brand you want with the word discounts and it takes you to coupon sites. Happy shopping Huskies!
