Â
Name:Â Holly Smith
Year: 8th Semester Senior
Major:Communications with a Minor in Psychology
Â
Holly is one eccentric chic girl! With her bouncy curls, bright smile, and Parisian fashion taste, she surely puts together some one of kind looks. She is also the founder of a club at UConn. It’s called Project Fashion, where girls and guys share an interest in fashion and discuss various things like trends, tips, fashion shows and more. In almost one month she’ll be graduating and entering the real world.
Â
Day One…
On a cold, windy Monday afternoon and sitting by Swan Lake, Holly wore a jacket from Club Monaco, pants from Madewell (which is her new favorite brand), sweater from Topshop, shoes & scarf from Parisian stores in Paris and sunglasses from the streets of NYC. Her look is well put together for windy spring weather with a style that almost looks fall inspired.
Â
What inspires your outfits?
They just come to me. Everyday I think of a piece that I kind of want to wear and what kind of works together.
Â
How would you perceive your unique style?
I think it’s kind of classic meets retro-trendy almost. Like I like to have classic things that I can have for a long time, but I feel like they can almost be taken out of the past. They can be taken like from the 70s or 80s.Â
Â
Do you dress for comfort or to get a boost of energy?
I put on heels when I need a boost of energy. If I’m in a crappy mood that’s when I’ll look the best. Because I make sure even though I feel yucky in the inside, on the outside I look good. Heels always make me feel a little bit better. So that’s normally kind of my boost. I normally dress for how I look, not for comfort.
Â
Day Two…Â
Outside behind Monteith is a big tree where people seem to have carved their names, loved ones, and interesting quotes. It was another windy day but that didn’t stop Holly from wearing what she wanted.Â
She wore a dress and a turtle neck from American Apparel, jacket is from Anthropology, belt is from a little shop in England, bag is See by Chloe and shoes are from Paris.
Â
What is your style icon you embody when you get dressed?
It’s more of when I flip through magazines and I see editorials and ads and things. I try to take inspiration from there and emulate them in my own life. So there’s not like one specific person.
Â
Day Three…
What nice weather to just sit on the swings looking at Mirror Lake and the beautiful nature.Â
In this outfit Holly has a certain French chic, obviously she does because she had went abroad for a semester in Paris. She came back with some cute Parisian items. She wore a shirt from Forever21, scarf was a gift, skirt is Anthropology, and shoes are from Paris.Â
Â
Day Four…
I will admit it was a bit cloudy but it was sure to clear up later in the day. There were beautiful flowers behind the Benton Art Museum that surprisingly coordinated with Holly’s outfit. You can tell from her outfit that she was right about the classic meets retro/trendy type of style. It’s very refreshing, fun, and girly.
Â
Â
Day Five…
In this outfit she wore a dress from Nordstrom and jacket as well. Shoes are from TJMaxx, belt came off from an Elizabeth & James coat, and scarf came from a thrift store in London. She looks very breezy and flowing. This is certainly classic style. Looks like a college student from the 60s.Â
Â
Â
Day Six…
This was taken in Rhode Island; she was college touring with her younger sister.Â
She wore a black dress from Forever21, jacket and shoes are from Paris and the scarf is from H&M. The black dress paired with the nude-pink jacket gave it a sweet energetic accent; if it weren’t place together it would feel dark and bleak. The shoes are quite lovely. I love the mixture patterns from the scarf with the odd texture of the jacket. It’s intriguing.
Â
Day Seven…
What a beautiful Easter it was. There was absolutely no one on campus! Oh well. We went by the famous Gampel Pavilion where there was yet another beautiful pink tree. Holly’s shoes are from DSW, skirt is from American Apparel, shirt is from Nordstrom, scarf is from a little shop in England, hairpiece was a gift, and earrings are from Providence, Rhode Island.
Â
Now for the final question…
Â
Â
What is your definition of fashion?
It’s a way of life, its kind of what you do to express yourself. It’s art in the form of clothing, it’s art you can wear, and express yourself on a daily basis. And I think it’s something that is underrated on college campuses. It’s just a way of life. There’s no definition of it, but I guess that would be mine.
Â
Â
The end.
