Chemical-Free Collegiettes™: Deodorant

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

My dearest divas, this week I want to talk about something we all have and all hate to deal with, our armpits. Let’s be real, there is NOTHING worse than having bumpy, stubbly, gross armpits. Being that our weekend outings involve a fair share of cute tank tops and teeny dresses, our armpits are on display for all to see, and no one wants to be the girl with the yucky pits. I know it isn’t the most pleasant topic, and clearly not the most noticeable beauty issue, but most if not all of us have dealt with bumpy armpits after shaving.

A lot of the shaving creams on the market today contain parabens, waxy petroleum based chemicals that are used to preserve the product. One of the main problems with these chemicals (which I will bring up regularly), is that they can be severely irritating to sensitive areas, aka your armpits. Additionally, they leave behind a waxy film that can clog pores and leave to little bumps. Luckily, I think I may have found the solution to this problem.

EOS (which stands for evolution of smooth) is a company dedicated to getting every women’s body smoother, and they are doing a GREAT job. I recently picked up their shaving cream and fell in love. The product is made without parabens or any sulfates, so it doesn’t foam up or clog pores. It goes on like a smooth lotion and left my armpits smooth and bump free! Although there are some artificial colors in it, they are in very small amount and the company maintains that they are naturally derived so it is basically a miracle cream!

I follow it up with Tom’s natural deodorant, which is free of aluminum, another common armpit irritant and my armpits are smooth and smell like a dream come true. The best thing about using natural products on sensitive areas is that they aren’t just substitutes for the regular products, they actually work better! The best thing is, you can find the EOS product pretty much anywhere, for under six dollars. So do a little exploring next time you are looking for a way to pamper your pits, and remember that you can still be a diva without all of the chemicals!
