Chemical-Free Collegiettes™: Tips and Tricks from an All Natural Diva!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

Eye Shadow, lip gloss, foundation, perfume and body wash. We girls have a lot of products that we simply could not live without! With that being said, have you ever taken the time to examine what exactly is in all of those must haves? Take the lip butter out of your purse, or the body cream out of the cabinet and read the ingredients, a whole bunch of big chemical names, right? The scary thing about the products we can’t live without is that they are made with ingredients we really can and should live without.

Parabens, sulfates and even petroleum (yes, the stuff in gasoline) can be found in everything from shampoo to eye liner. These chemicals can have nasty effects on your skin, hair and overall health all the while providing only temporary fixes to beauty problems.

Realizing this, I made it my goal two years ago to end my dependence on chemical products, to stop using items that were hurting my body and branch out to new, natural products that worked just as well if not better than their chemical rich counterparts. I started my own orglamic (organic and glam)revolution, and decided to replace my old beauty and lifestyle products with only items that were made responsibly and naturally. Products that would enhance my life and work towards keeping my nails, skin and hair healthy and beautiful.

The switch was not easy, it took a lot of research and time to figure out what worked and what didn’t, but I have never been happier! I hope to share all of my natural diva knowledge with all of you, so that you can enjoy life free of chemical worried.

Each week I will not only address the yucky elements in your regular products and what they do to you, I’ll give you all of the details on natural, wholesome  alternative beauty, lifestyle products and information on where and how to buy them. I will also bring up different methods of living and eating naturally while teaching you all of the techniques and knowledge needed to become a chemical free collegiette™, even in a dorm!

Editor’s Note: Check back each week to read a new article in Jennifer’s column.
