A college student’s life can be associated with raging parties, late nights, and going to the bar every weekend. However, there are plenty of students who don’t like drinking or going out to the bar! If you’re a student at UConn whose worried about staying in all weekend, don’t worry; there are plenty of things to do if going to Nickel isn’t your idea of a fun time. Here are five things to do at UConn, Storrs, if you’re not into the bar scene on campus.
1. Go to Late Night at the Student Union
UConn hosts Late Night every Friday and Saturday night from 9 pm to 1 am! If you love to get crafty, win fun prizes, and get free food, Late Night should be something to check out. Previous themes from this semester have been; Harry Potter, Sleepover, and Dance Party! Late Night is the perfect way to start the weekend, as there’s something for everyone. If you need even more incentive to head down to the Student Union, you can buy boneless wings during Late Night and jam out to student-run karaoke!
2. Go Ice SkatingÂ
If you’re looking for a physically fun way to spend the weekend, I’d recommend going ice skating. The Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum does open the rink to the public and has time slots specifically for UConn students! Entry is seven dollars, and you can rent skates for five dollars a pair. They have times for general skate on their website, so if you want to spend your weekend shredding up the ice, you should check it out.Â
3. Go to Movies at the Student UnionÂ
SUBOG shows movies at the Student Union every week! It’s free to students with a student ID, and there’s always something new showing. Harriet, Good Boys, and Knives Out are just a handful of the exciting options that have been shown this semester. Movies start on Thursday at 9 pm and, where Friday and Saturday begin at 8 pm. So if you want to watch the latest films head over to the Student Union this weekend!
4. Go to Insomnia Cookies
If you have a sweet tooth, Insomnia Cookies is the place to go! They have a store in Downtown Storrs, and it is so instagramable. Their iconic purple sign and delicious creations should be a place to check out if you prefer sugar over shots. To make Insomnia Cookies even sweeter, they deliver warm cookies and milk until 3 am.Â
5. Head over to the First Thursday at the BentonÂ
Thursday nights at UConn are often associated with Nickel, but they don’t have to be! If you’re looking for something similar to Late Night, First Thursdays at the Benton are just what you need. This event is held at UConn’s William Benton Museum of Art and is a great way to connect with other students on campus. First Thursday’s feature DJs, therapy dogs, and more! And, if you’re addicted to the Beanery, they have 25% off espresso beverages from 4:30-8 pm.Â
