If you have yet to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah, stop reading this and turn on your television. Like right now. I have zero shame in saying that I watched this interview three times from beginning to end, and I’m here to share my top “I can’t believe this is real” moments.

Kate & Meghan’s not-so-sweet sister-in-law relationship

We all remember the tabloids deeming Kate, William, Harry, and Meghan the “Unstoppable Four” in 2018, right? Well, they’ve stopped at a mega red light. Meghan revealed that the week of her wedding, Princess Kate made her cry because she was upset about Meghan’s flower girl dresses. Not only was Meghan crying the week of her wedding, but she also endured being demolished by the tabloids in the months after her wedding saying that it was instead her that made Kate cry. While this was happening, there was no defense on Meghan’s behalf from the palace.

The Prince and Princess were married before their famous wedding

The couple revealed that they got legally married three days before their enchanted wedding. In the interview, Meghan stated, “This spectacle (their televised wedding) is for the world, but we want this to be between us.” The couple was married on palace grounds with only the archbishop in attendance. Over one billion people watched their televised wedding. Can you imagine the pressure?!!

There were concerns about the skin tone of their future children

Yes, you did read that right. And yes, I’m repulsed too. During the interview, Meghan said that a member of the Royal Family had concerns about how dark their son Archie’s skin would be once he was born. Prince Harry refused to even speak on the subject because of how damaging it would be to his family’s reputation. The couple also revealed they were told that Archie would not only not receive a royal title, but he would not receive security either. The couple spoke about how much racism had affected their decision to step down as senior royals.

Meghan’s mental health struggle

Through tears, Meghan told Oprah that at one point during her pregnancy with Archie, she just “didn’t want to be alive anymore.” The lack of support from the palace, the racism she faced, and the monster the tabloids had made her out to be had become entirely too much for her to handle. She described her life as a real Princess as “nothing like the movies” and said those years were the hardest of her whole life. Even more heartbreaking, she revealed that she went to the palace to ask for help (to go to an institution to receive therapy), and she was turned away. “They said it would look bad,” she told Oprah, but meanwhile she was scared to be left alone for fear of harming herself, and went on to say that she was holding on by a thread.

The palace revoked Harry and Meghan’s security

When the couple decided to step down as senior members of the Royal Family they moved to Canada, as it is a part of the English Commonwealth. Weeks after their move, Prince Harry received notice from the Palace that he and Meghan were going to have their security removed. Harry described being afraid for the safety of his wife and his newborn child, as they are public figures who were also under high scrutiny at the time. Fearful about his family’s lack of security, he said he was angry about the removal of it. Prince Harry has a birthright to security as a direct descendant of the Queen. “I didn’t ask to be born into this,” he said to Oprah.

On the brighter side, the couple says they are doing much better in their new home in LA and announced that they are expecting a baby girl this summer. As far as I’m concerned, Meghan Markle is the new Queen of England.
