Love is in the air, and thanks to NBC’s hit television series Parks and Recreation, a hallmark holiday that we can get behind was born: Galentine’s Day. Falling the day before Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day is for “ladies celebrating ladies,” as put by our fictional queen, Leslie Knope. No matter your price range, you and your friends deserve to celebrate Galentine’s day in style with these absolutely fabulous, no boys allowed, date ideas.
The Movie Night ($)
What you’ll need: a pillow fort equipped with fairy lights and blankets, the movie of your choice, a projector, heart-shaped pizza, popcorn, chocolate, rosé (obviously), and comfy sweatpants.
Girls Night Out ($$)
Getting ready is half the fun here. Get the girls together and blast your favorite pregame playlist as y’all get dolled up. At UConn there are plenty of options for a chill night out that won’t break the bank. For those over 21, Huskies Bar, where there is an $8 cover, holds their iconic “Nickel Nights” every weekend (Thursday included) where four drinks cost only $1 for a limited time. If you’re underage, Tang Noodle Bar, located by the Oaks, offers private karaoke rooms where you and your girls can sing your hearts out, free of judgment.
The Date Night ($$$)
Treat your girls like the queens they are and take them out to dinner. Surprise them with flowers from The Flower Pot and ask them where they would like to go. Popular date spots at UConn include Oriental Cafe, Geno’s Grill, and Dog Lane Cafe. If you’re working on a budget, order some calzones from D.P. Dough and set up a picnic in your dorm room; it’s the thought that matters.
Remember: Your friends are your soulmates, too. Happy Galentine’s Day ladies!
