Everyone is always stuck in his or her usual routine – going to class, doing homework, worrying about exams, etc. The stress of our daily lives can sometimes be overwhelming and it seems that a “pick-me-up” should be in order. As fellow Huskies, it is our duty to be looking out for each other so here are little things you can do to brighten someone’s day.
1. Hold the door
Especially going into Oak Hall… those doors are heavy!
2. Say “Hi” to a stranger
Maybe it will spark a nice conversation and you’ll meet someone great you would have otherwise ignored.
3. Greet your Professors
Our professors need love, too, especially after having to lecture all day long.
4. Pay for the Dunkin/ Starbucks #PayItForward
Free coffee… yes, please. It’s only a couple of bucks extra and who knows, you might start something awesome on campus.
5. Leave a sticky note with encouraging words on the mirror in your dorm floor bathroom, on desks in classrooms, or even on a seat on the bus.
Everyone needs a little boost now and again and notes like these are a great way to do that.
6. Get lunch or coffee with a friend you haven’t seen in awhile
Humans are social creatures by nature so catching up with an old friend is a great way to make both of you feel good.
7. Let someone cut you in front of you in line
If you’re ever at the grocery store and the person behind you only has a few items in their hand and you have a whole cart full, why not let them go ahead of you? They’ll be relieved and grateful and the extra minute waiting isn’t a huge deal.
8. Give out five compliments in one day
Setting a goal like this for yourself will improve your social well being AND make someone smile.
9. Smile at a stranger
Maybe not exactly like Buddy, but you get the idea.
10. Bring in donuts/ bagels for your coworkers
Bringing in this puppy would be icing on the cake.
11. Thank the bus driver
They drive in circles all day making sure you get to class (mostly on time) and thanking them is the least you can do. Plus, it will make their route a little bit brighter.
12. Send an “I miss you and love you” text to your parents
This single text message will probably make their entire week.
13. Ask someone if they need a ride when it’s cold out
Ever see someone walking home from the bar on a freezing night? Your friend ever need to go shopping when it’s cold? Offer them a ride without asking for anything in return.
14. Brush the snow off of the car next to you
Think of how happy you would be if someone did that for you!
15. Make a donation
Not only does it benefit a great cause, but knowing you’re making a difference even makes yourself feel great.
It’s the little things you say or do in a day that can truly make others and yourself feel great.
