The most recent season of the Netflix reality show, Love is Blind, was my favorite of all four seasons. I thought there was a good balance of drama and actual love stories, which gave me everything I could’ve wanted out of a reality show. For those who aren’t aware of the show’s premise, an equal amount of men and women are put into “pods” where they blindly go on dates to meet their potential soulmates. The overarching goal of the show is to get engaged in the “pods,” successfully transition the relationship into the real world, and say yes at the altar. This may come as surprising to some, but three couples completed this unusual process and are now happily married. The remaining couples, however, were not as successful — to say the least.
To begin, I want to discuss the duo that created most of the drama throughout this season: Micah and Irina. These two were true mean girls in the pods; they laughed at girls who cried, made snarky remarks under their breath, and made the other girls feel beneath them. Outside of the pods, the girls meddled in other relationships which created issues for some of the couples to work through. One of these couples was Kwame and Chelsea. Even though these two are now happily married, Kwame’s flirtatious conversations with Micah were not a good look on either of them, who should have been more respectful of their partners.
Irina, on the other hand, wasn’t interested in Zach, (her fiancé from the pods), as soon as she saw him in person. She even told him he “reminded her of a cartoon character” and would hide under a pillow when he would speak to her. Overall, she treated Zach poorly and even developed a crush on her “best friend,” Micah’s, fiancé! Overall, Micah and Irina proved that they don’t know boundaries when it comes to respecting their own relationships, other people’s relationships, and people in general.
Another couple I wanted to mention is Marshall and Jackie. From the jump, this couple began to have issues as soon as they arrived at the Mexico honeymoon. Jackie began to have emotional breakdowns and couldn’t effectively communicate with Marshall about what was going on. Although Marshall tried to help, he couldn’t break through and the couple had to break up before they could make it to the altar. To my surprise, right after the breakup, Jackie said she wanted to explore things with another man from the pods! I thought this was too soon since she was just engaged to Marshall and was supposedly “in love” with him.
Now, moving on to the whole point of the show: love. As I mentioned, three couples ended up saying yes at the altar: Zach and Bliss, Kwame and Chelsea, and Tiffany and Brett. Each of these couples had its own hurdles they had to overcome when they transitioned their relationships from the pods to the real world. Whether that was a difference of lifestyle, having to relocate, or disapproval from parents, each of these couples put their love for one another above it all. This is the main reason why I love this show: people make a huge jump into marriage with nothing but their love for one another to back it up.
