The Greatest Showman is a musical inspired by the story of P.T Barnum and tells the story of a man who worked himself out of poverty and became a worldwide sensation, but it was not easy.Â
If I could give a review in just three words, I would use amazing, emotional and breathtaking. It may seem like I’m being dramatic, but I truly loved The Greatest Showman.Â
I went to watch The Greatest Showman on New Year’s Eve, since I had to work NYE and didn’t really have any other plans, but I do not regret it.Â
To be completely honest, I decided to watch this movie for two reasons: Zendaya and Zac Efron. But the movie offered so much more than just a love story. It featured some of the racial tension that took place in that time. The “freaks” learned how to love themselves and empower each other. A man who had nothing, got to marry the love of his life, achieved his dreams, and changed the world by working hard. But The Greatest Showman included what happens when everyone works together after a time of loss and tragedy.Â
I was so excited to see how the relationship between Phillip (Zac Efron) and Anne Wheeler (Zendaya) developed through out the movie. I appreciate the fact that the racial difference was featured in the movie and took a toll on their relationship. I was obviously rooting for them to end up together but it was important to address the race factor. Phillip was afraid of being judged for being in a relationship with Anne due to her skin color. I admire Anne for standing up for herself and not tolerating being hidden in the shadows.Â
Now let’s talk about Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, I thought he did an amazing job leading the crew. It takes great actors to make a great story “Come Alive.” (P.S. I am still upset that Hugh Jackman lost the Oscar I think he so deserved.)
Plus this is the first movie of which I could listen to the whole soundtrack, so it makes it that much better.Â
Over all I would say The Greatest Showman is a must see, and I give it 5 stars out of 5 stars. âââââ
