This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.
There are so many great thingsThere are so many great things about the beginning of a new school year, back-to-

There are so many reasons to become excited about heading back to your college or university! School shopping, the rush of new classes, the excitement of having your friends down the hall again, and, not to mention, new walls to decorate!

Typically, dorm rooms are small, cramped, and need careful organization to fit a modern collegiette’s clothing, shoes and accessorizes. With some skillful decorating though, and some tips from Her Campus, decor can brighten a room and turn a dreary dorm into a home away from home!

The first and most vital step is color! One way to add color to a room is to pick out sheets and a comforter that express your personal style. Large prints are very popular such as these sheets and comforters from Dormify and Target.

Posters and pictures are staples when it comes to decorating dorm walls. Taping pictures of friends into patterns and collages, or also completely filling a wall are a few ways to mask the very bland whiteness of your dorm. Try hanging a thread between two pushpins to create a clothesline-like way to hang pictures of your friends and family. Secure photos with a paperclip or mini clothespins. Also try getting photos printed in black and white to create for a new way to decorate your walls.

The often brown, white or blue colored flooring that some dorms have can be dreary. In order to add color and keep your feet warm in the morning, invest in a soft rug. Whether a solid color or a pattern, a rug can add positive energy to the overall feel of a room.

Storage, storage, storage! Storage is a necessity for any collegiette. Colored bins, hooks and hangers, decorative mirrors and jewelry boxes are just a few of the examples of the way storage can not only be practical, but also fashionable.

Last but not least, don’t forget school supplies. The books you carry to class, notebooks, folders, and laptop cover can all add style to your room. A colorful case for your computer can be left as is or decorated with pictures and stickers. Notebooks and folders in different colors and patterns can decorate your desk. Lastly, a cute clipboard such as the one below from box64studios can make homework more
enjoyable.
