The Stages of Buying Concert Tickets

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

When your favorite artist announces they’re going on tour it can be both the happiest and scariest of times.  If you’ve ever been the designated ticket-buyer for an event, you have probably experienced the struggles that accompany it. From endless research to copious amounts of planning, buying tickets for a group is emotionally exhausting. Everyone’s fate rests in your hands, and the pressure can be unreal. Luckily, collegiettes, we know the struggle.

Phase One: Shock and Scramble

In that moment the world stops and everyone is immediate contact with one another. Where is the closest venue? Who is going? If the room is not silent and you aren’t frantically scrolling through your phones and laptops with shaking hands searching for tour dates and prices you are wrong.

Phase Two: Finding a Pre Sale

Whether it is a fan-oriented presale or a credit card related presale, it is crucial to find a way to get those golden tickets into your hands as quickly as possible even if it means begging your parents for their credit card.

Phase Three: Mission Impossible

Finally, the day has come and it is time to enter the jungle that is the presale. One electronic device is not enough for this task, you must  be equipped with every electronic device you have (laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) in preparation for the madness to ensue.

Phase Four: The Play by Play

Everyone’s fate lies at your fingertips. Time passes slower with every moment  spent on the cyber-queue. Then, within a limited amount of time, the designated buyer has to give the play by play of what is going on on the screen to all of their friends. No tickets available?! What? Refresh! Wifi Gods, please look out for me!

Phase Five: The Lottery

The impending sense of life or death hovers over your screen as the “Find Me Better Seats” button taunts you. Are you feeling lucky?

Phase Six: Finalize

Nothing feels better than clicking finalize after what seems like hours of anxiety and stress. You did it, and now you get to be a hero, saving the day for all of your friends.

Phase Seven: Celebrate

Because you’re going to the show and no one can stop you now.
