I am absolutely enraged by the college admissions scandal where wealthy parents have bought their child’s admission into prestigious colleges.
According to www.reuters.com, “Thirty-three parents, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, are charged with participating in the scheme in hopes of getting their children into universities including Yale, Georgetown and the University of Southern California.”
“The Fuller House star and the Mossimo clothing company founder allegedly gave $500,000 to say Olivia Jade was part of the USC rowing team when that was not true, the indictment states,” according to www.people.com.
Many people have showcased their reactions on Twitter, especially targeting their once beloved “Aunt Becky.”
College and high school students share their opinions as well.
“It bothered me because it took away the the chance of an amazing experience for kids that worked incredibly hard to even apply to those schools just for kids who really didn’t deserve or care about college in general,” said Isabella Purpora, freshman at Saint Lawrence University.
“As a student about to undergo the college admissions process, it bothers me how much work I know I will have to put in, compared to students who unfairly had their way bought in,” said Carley Kurtz, sophomore at Cheshire High School.
This scandal is extremely unjust. I hope that after seeing the repercussions of the illegal acts, wealthy parents will be discouraged from bribing their child’s way into college in the future.
