Tell Me You Love Me Tour: Connecting Fans to Mental Health Resources

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

This week kicks off Demi Lovato’s Tell Me You Love Me tour, and Demi continues to make strides for mental health by providing free mental health and counseling services before her show.

Ticket holders will have the option to sign up for free inspirational speeches about mental health and group counseling sessions that will take place before the tour. These services will be provided by CAST Centers, a mental health and addiction treatment center based in Los Angeles that Lovato is a co-owner of. She was treated there in 2011, and since then has been a strong advocate for mental health awareness.

This isn’t the first time Lovato has used her voice to connect fans to mental health services. On her 2016 Future Now tour with Nick Jonas, she teamed up with CAST Centers to create seminars before her concert that featured inspirational guest speakers. These seminars were a phone-free, safe space where ticket holders could respond to the guest speakers and get connected to help if they needed it.

Mental health awareness is a personal issue for Lovato. In October, Lovato released her documentary on Youtube, “Simply Complicated”, which details her life as a artist who struggles with bipolar disorder, substance use disorder and an eating disorder. This intimate footage allows fans to get a glimpse into her daily life and to witness how she balances a healthy lifestyle while being a very active artist and celebrity. She knows from a personal standpoint how hard it can be to ask for help when you need it, and wants to connect fans to resources.

“I just know how important it is to use my platform to help others and to share my story in hopes that it inspires people to either get into recovery or better themselves,” she told Good Morning America in January. “Whatever it is, I just want people to know they’re not alone and I’m here for them.”
