Often students set a limit for the amount they will drink before driving or establish a cutoff time to stop drinking. However, our communications group is encouraging students to not drink at all if they plan on driving. Our goal is to promote having a truly sober driver. We define being truly sober as not consuming any alcohol whatsoever before driving.
After conducting a survey of 100 students, our communications group examined some of the excuses that individuals make for drinking and driving. Some of these excuses included:
“I want to sleep in my own bed.”
“I don’t want to walk home.”
“I’m not driving that far.”
“I want to get food.”
“I don’t want to leave my car at the party.”
When looking at these excuses with sober eyes, it is clear that they do not justify risking your life and the lives of others by drinking and driving. So take a step back before you get behind the wheel and ask yourself: “Should I be driving?”
Help us put an end to drinking and driving by taking our pledge:
Truly Sober: I will not consume any alcohol whatsoever before driving.
As a designated driver, I pledge to be truly sober.
As a passenger, I pledge to have a truly sober driver.
