With finals week approaching and life getting crazy as the semester comes to an end (and we lock ourselves in the library for hours on end), it can be really easy to neglect our healthy and well being. While school is definitely important, our health is, too. We may not have time for a full blown workout everyday, but we can still find small ways to keep ourselves in line and on the right track to a healthy mind, body and spirit. So here are six healthy habits that I think we all can benefit from trying out this spring.
1. Drink more H2O
Water is SO essential to a healthy functioning body. Not only does it help flush away toxins, but it also aids in muscle movement, clear skin and so much more! Doctors recommend that you drink at least eight eight-ounce servings a day. If you find that drinking water straight up is a bit too boring for you, try adding in fruits to give it more flavor. You’ll be hydrated in no time!
2. Wash your face
I get it. It was a long day, you had an even busier night, and now you’re home and all you wanna do is go to bed. NO! Sleeping with makeup on is a huge no-no. The makeup, dirt and sweat you’ve collected throughout the day builds up and clogs your pores. If you don’t take the time everyday (usually only about five minutes) to cleanse your skin and give it the chance to breathe, you’re wayyyy more likely to get breakouts and potential acne scarring. Worth it? I think not!
3. Moisturize
If you completed the step above you’re already off to a great skincare start! Now that your skin is fresh and clean, it’s super important to protect and restore it. Moisturizer is key to attaining a smooth and glowing complexion. Make sure you find a moisturizer that is right for your skin type. When your skin is too dry or too oily, many common problems occur like acne. Also, using a moisturizer that has SPF in it is a bonus! Not only will it make sure your skin is extra protected from the sun’s harmful rays, but it will help prevent wrinkles too. What a win, win!
4. Stay informed
With so many different things going on in our own lives, sometimes it’s hard to stay up to date with what’s going on everywhere else in the world. Reading or watching the news can be time consuming, but it’s important to stay up to date with current events and breaking news. Websites and newsletters like theSkimm are super helpful in staying informed. After you sign up with your email, The Daily Skimm is sent to you everyday bright and early in the a.m. with briefs on all major current events. Staying in the know has never been easier or less time consuming!Â
5. Organize your day
Planning your day—whether that be with a planner, notebook or just making a note on your phone—is extremely helpful. Not only will writing your day out help you clear your head, but visualizing your day will increase the likelihood of you actually being productive and getting the tasks you need to get done, done!
6. Less screen time
This last one is something I think we all can agree we’d benefit from. Our phones, computers, tablets and now watches have become such a key part of our life that it’s easy to get caught up behind our screens. While there are a lot of cool features and ways to stay connected with these devices, setting aside certain “no screen” time in your day is an awesome way to unplug and find other ways to treat yourself by reading, taking a walk, creating art or whatever it may be that brings you joy.
Spring has sprung, and healthy habits have begun!
