8 Things You’ll Only Understand If You’re Already Ready For Winter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

Alright so, I’ve talked to most of my friends about how I’m so excited for the snow and the cold to return soon, but I’ve gotten negative responses. What’s not to like about bundling yourself up in a blanket burrito or sipping a cup of steaming hot chocolate with mini marshmallows? I’ll have you know that winter is the best season out there in my opinion. Here are some of the reasons why.

1. You can wrap yourself up in winter, but you can’t take your clothes off in the summer

It’s not like you can parade around in a bra and undies when it’s so hot and humid outside. However, when it’s cold, you can easily add extra layers and feel cozy! I’m ready for sweaters and hoodies to be worn already! I mean, you have plenty of sweatpants to wear, but for the summer? What’s the point if you end up changing your clothes every five minutes?

2. You don’t have to take two showers every single day

I don’t know about you guys, but I love being constantly fresh and clean. So when I sweat, I internally groan because I know I have to take another shower before I go to sleep. It’s annoying, but I rather be clean than drown and sleep in my own sweat. I’m not going to deny it though, it feels really nice stepping into a shower and scrubbing the dirt away.

3. Sweat in uncomfortable places

Ladies, you know the struggle of this. Sweat manages to get all up in your personal space and you feel violated. I hate everything about sweat because it makes me want to cry. And honestly, who wants to walk around drenched in their own sweat? Not me. Most of summer is basically spending money on a lot of deodorant.

4. Hoodies and sweatpants

I haven’t worn a hoodie during the daytime or outside in forever, and I’m not happy with that. I love them, especially oversized ones, so I cannot wait to wear them again without panicking about my sweat. And let’s not forget the sweatpants! As soon as the cold weather is upon us, I will be wearing sweatpants to class, because there’s nothing better than feeling cozy all day everyday.

5. Coffee — hot or cold?

The weather affects my coffee decisions, I know it’s weird. But if it’s boiling outside, I’m not going to drink something hot! That’s crazy. Personally, I’m a fan of hot coffee, so I’d prefer if I wasn’t already baking while I drink my coffee, thank you very much.

6. Snow

I’m a massive fan of snow, and yes, I do know it can be inconvenient sometimes, but it’s just so lovely. I’m not lying when I say that I can look outside my window at the snow fall for hours, and still be perfectly content. It’s magical and don’t even get me started on the trees! The trees are my favorite part of the winter.

7. Christmas!

Everyone’s going on about Halloween, and I’m here wondering if it’s too early to start playing Christmas songs. I’m pretty sure one of our favorite holidays is Christmas, with the funny looking sweaters and the Santa hats. With the snow and decorations, winter is the best season of the year for me.

8. Bugs be gone

Last but not least, bugs. There are absolutely no weird creepy crawlies or the general bug just hanging about. Bugs terrify me and totally freak me out. In the summer, all the strange bugs creep into your life somehow, and I don’t need that, thanks. In the winter, there are NO BUGS. That’s exactly the way I like it.

Did you relate to all of that? Good! Let’s just hope that the cold weather is on its way because I’m waiting here wrapped up in my blankets.
