Cook Without Making A Trip To The Store

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

It is near the end of the semester, and your student loan did not last you as long as you had hoped.  This is the season that many college students start penny pinching, taking a closer look at online job scams, and eating nothing but ramen and boiled eggs. But your meal choices don’t have to look so grim thanks to new websites that ask you what ingredients you already have, and point towards recipes that fit your budget, or lack there of.

My favorite of these ingredient to recipe generators is Supercook.com, which searches a wide variety of recipe websites to help point out meals and treats you can make with what you already have in your kitchen. All you need is three to five basic ingredients in order to get a list of 150 new recipes to try out!

Sometimes you find a simpler way to make your favorite cookies. Other times super cook surprises you with dishes you never thought of making. It is a great site to try out, and since you are using ingredients you already have, you really do have nothing to lose!

Nicole Lumbreras is a junior at University of Iowa, class of 2012, studying Journalism and Sociology. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Nicole loves to explore new restaurants, see live music and attend sporting events. Nicole loves to travel, dance, write in her blog and takes pleasure in the art of photography. Nicole loves to spend time with her friends and family, and when time allows she will get her fill of Bad Girls Club, Glee, So You Think You Can Dance, and Grey's Anatomy. Nicole recently got foot surgery and rediscovered running; her goal is to run a half marathon before she is 25. After college she plans to move into the city (Chicago) with a American bulldog, attend graduate school at night and hopefully write for Chicago Magazine or another fun and upcoming project.
